Over 2,200 Omani citizens lost their jobs in the sultanate this year, according to the Ministry of Manpower, Times of Oman reported.

“More than 2,200 citizens were laid off this year, from 18 main companies,” said Salem bin Nasser Al Hadhrami, the ministry’s director general of planning and development.

“The layoffs this year were from several companies working in the construction sector for the development of infrastructure, as well as in the industrial sector and the trade and automotive sectors.”

Oman has been taking concrete steps for Omanisation in the recent past.

The ministry had urged private sector companies to submit their Omanisation plans prior to January 31 next year.

Legal action against non-compliant companies would be carried out, Times of Oman had reported earlier this year.
