Abu Dhabi’s Etihad launches 787 on Amman route, plans second daily service

Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has begun operating the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on its Amman route and will launch a second daily service later this year.

The two-class plane increases capacity on the route by 65 per cent and features 299 seats, with 28 in business class and 271 in economy.

Etihad CEO Peter Baumgartner said the higher capacity was designed to meet demand from business and leisure travellers for flights too and from the Jordanian capital.

“The UAE enjoys historic ties with Jordan and there are broader and brighter prospects for economic relations between these two Arab states, particularly through business partnerships and tourism,” he said.

The existing daily service, EY513, leaves Abu Dhabi at 10:30am and arrives in Amman at 11:40am.

EY514 then leaves Amman at 2:10pm and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 7:05pm.

The carrier said it would operate a second daily flight from June 26 to September 30 to cater to expected traffic demand. These will be operated by an A320.

Similarly, Etihad said earlier this month it would upgrade its Paris service to an Airbus A380 over the summer to meet demand.
