The UAE and Saudi Arabia have confirmed that Sunday will be the first day of Eid following the sighting of the Crescent moon on Saturday.

The sighting of the moon signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the start of the month of Shawwal.

The UAE’s moon sighting committee, chaired by UAE minister of Justice Sultan Bin Saeed Al Badi, met after the Magrib prayers on Saturday night.

Al Badi said in a statement that after exhausting all legitimate methods and making contacts with neighbouring countries, the Shawwal moon was sighted and therefore Sunday, June 25, 2017 will be the first day of Shawwal 1438 H.

The UAE has already announced that public sector workers will be off for three days from the first day of Eid while private sector workers have been given two working days off to celebrate Eid.
