Home Transport Aviation Dubai International passenger traffic up 5.6% in November The airport is already ahead of its 2017 forecast of 89 million passengers by Robert Anderson January 4, 2018 Dubai Airports has reported another increase in passenger traffic at the world’s busiest international airport. The Dubai International operator said the airport welcomed nearly 7 million passengers during November, an increase of 5.6 per cent on the 6.58 million seen in the same month the previous year. However, this was noticeably slower than the 9.4 per cent growth seen in November 2016. Read: Dubai airport passenger traffic up 9.4% in November This also increased year-to-date passenger traffic at the airport by 5.8 per cent from 75.9 million in 2016 to 90.38 million in 2017. The Indian subcontinent and Western Europe made up the majority of passengers during the month at 7.5 per cent and 8 per cent respectively. Similarly London, with 310,551 passengers, and Mumbai, with 217,279 passengers, were the top cities. By country India remained top for passengers at 999,625, but the UK was overtaken by Saudi Arabia in second for the first time in four months at 534,906. This compared to 507,796 for the former. Flight movements at Dubai International were actually down 3.7 per cent compared to 2016 to 33,421 but the average number of passengers per flight increased 7.3 per cent to 215. In terms of freight, volumes increased 0.4 per cent from 234,743 tonnes to 235,651 tonnes. Freight for the first 11 months of the year was up 2.7 per cent to 2.36 million tonnes. “Over the past year, Dubai International has witnessed consistent growth in terms of passenger traffic. Given the high passenger traffic volumes we welcomed in December we anticipate ending the year on a positive note,” said Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths.
