The UAE and Bangladesh have signed a memorandum of understanding for the recruitment of domestic workers, UAE state news agency WAM announced on Wednesday.

The MoU comes under plans to expand the UAE’s recruitment pool for domestic staff to new countries.

It includes regulations for recruiting workers from Bangladesh, which can only be undertaken via franchisee applications under Tadbeer Service Centre and licence from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Only registered and licensed private recruitment firms in Bangladesh can submit lists of potential workers for available vacancies.

Any employment contract created should include “job description, salary, other benefits, food, accommodation and transport, if needed”, WAM said.

Salary payments will bade made under the UAE”s wage protection system, designed to ensure staff are paid on time.

The memorandum allow Bangladeshis in the professions of labourer, sailor, watchman, shepherd, hostler, falconer, housekeeper, cook, nanny, farmer, gardener, private trainer, private tutor, private burse, farm supervisor and private driver to be recruited.

Last year, the UAE introduced a new law granting better rights and protections to domestic workers including 30 days of annual leave, minimum rest hours, the payment of salaries within 10 days of being due and a standard contract.
