Home GCC UAE Bulgaria to recognise UAE driving licences A growing list of countries now recognise UAE licences by Staff Writer June 4, 2018 The UAE has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bulgaria for the two countries to mutually recognise each other’s driving licences. The deal is intended to boost bilateral ties and comes on the sidelines of a wider meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Bulgaria’s ambassador to the UAE. Drivers from the UAE will now be able to rent a car in Bulgaria without obtaining an international licence and vice versa. Bulgaria has been a member of the European Union since 2007 and is currently in the process of joining the Schengen area. The ministry said in an April update that UAE driving licences were accepted in 50 countries from only nine previously.
