Dubai announces free parking, metro, bus timings for Eid Al Fitr

Residents will be able to enjoy four days of free parking

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced four days of free public parking to mark the Islamic holiday of Eid Al Fitr.

All public parking spaces, with the exception of multi-storey parking terminals, will be free from Thursday, June 14 until the following Sunday or Monday depending exactly when Eid is declared.

Earlier on Monday, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that public sector workers would have from Thursday, June 14, until the third day of Shawwal (either Sunday, June 17 or Monday, June 18) off for Eid.

Private sector holidays have yet to be officially announced.

The metro’s Red Line will operate from 5:00am to 2:00am on Thursday and 10:00am to 2:00am on Friday followed by a 5:00am to 2:00am service from Saturday to Monday.

On the Green Line, timings will be 5:30am to 2:00am on Thursday, 10:00am to 2:00am on Friday and 5:30am to 2:00am from Saturday to Monday.

The Dubai Tram will operate from 6:00am to 1:00am Saturday to Thursday and 9:00am to 1:00am on Friday.

In terms of bus services, main stations like Gold Souq will be open from 5:14am to 12:59am and Al Ghubaiba Station from 4:46am to 12:33am.

Subsidiary stations like Satwa will operate from 5:00am to 11:59pm except for Route C01, which will operate 24/7.

Al Qusais bus station will be open from 5:00am to 12:00am, Al Qouz Industrial Staiton from 6:00am to 11:00pm and Jebel Ali from 5:00am to 11:30pm.

Feeder metro buse stations at Al Rashidiya, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall and other areas will open from 5:00am to 1:10am, inline with metro services.

Inter-city and commercial buses will operate from main stations around-the-clock to Sharjah and from 4:40am to 1:05am to Abu Dhabi.

Subsidiary stations like Union square will operate from 5:00am to 12:35am.

Water taxis will service Dubai Marina stations from 12:00pm to 12:00am, while the Dubai Ferry will service Ghubaiba and Dubai Marina stations at 11:00am, 1:00pm, 3:00pm, 5:00pm and 6:30pm during the first three days of Eid.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan – when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset – and the start of the Shawwal month.

The first day of Eid is officially announced after the sighting of the crescent moon, but astronomers predict that it will fall on Friday, June 15 this year.

Based on that, Ramadan, which began on Thursday, May 17, is expected to run for 29 days.

Last week, Oman’s government declared that both private and public sector workers in the country will be off from Thursday, June 14 until Monday, June 18. They will resume work from Tuesday, June 19.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman also issued a directive on Tuesday to extend this year’s Eid Al Fitr holiday.
