Saudi Arabia and the UAE accuse Iran of providing Yemen’s Houthis with missile components

The UAE Armed Forces’ Patriot missile defence system has intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthis towards Mocha, state news agency WAM reported late Monday.

No casualties or damage were reported, despite the missile targeting a densely populated area, WAM said.

The UAE said the launch of missiles at Yemen’s cities confirmed Iranian involvement in supplying the Houthis with missiles and weapons.

The UAE is part of a Saudi-led coalition that entered the Yemen Civil War in 2015 to back forces loyal to ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi against the Houthis.

Coalition forces are currently besieging Yemen’s main port city of Hodeidah with the goal of driving out the Houthis. The UAE has said the coalition will end its assault if the Houthis agree to leave the city.

Saudi Arabia has been repeatedly targeted by Houthi missiles and projectiles fired over the border since the war began, with the most recent attack occurring on Sunday.

Last week, a coalition spokesperson said that the Houthis had launched 158 missiles and 42,924 projectiles since the start of the war.

While the majority of the attacks have been intercepted by air defences, a missile that struck Jazan earlier this month left a five year old boy injured.

Some attacks have also resulted in deaths, including three civilians killed in Jazan on June 9.
