Home GCC UAE UAE to mark Commemoration Day on Nov 29 The country has also declared a two-day holiday for its National Day celebrations by Staff Writer November 18, 2018 The UAE’s Council of Ministers has issued a decree to mark Commemoration Day, previously known as Martyr’s Day, earlier than usual this year. The country is scheduled to hold Commemoration Day, which is held in remembrance of members of the armed forces killed in combat, on November 30. However, as that date falls on a weekend for government offices this year, the commemoration ceremony will instead be held on Thursday, November 29. Events on the day will include the lowering of the UAE flag to half mast at government offices at 8:00am followed by a minute of silent prayer at 11:30am, before the flag is raised again and the national anthem is sang. “President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared that 30th November of each year would be Commemoration Day, in recognition of the sacrifices the UAE’s martyrs gave to perform their duties to the homeland and keeping the UAE flag high,” WAM said. The UAE Cabinet also said on Saturday that public and private sector workers would receive two days off following the weekend after Commemoration Day to celebrate the country’s National Day.
