Dubai Tram has served more than 28 million commuters since its launch five years ago, Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has said.

Launched in November 2014, Dubai Tram completed five years of operations this month. Its network covers a distance of 10.6 km with 11 stations.

Dubai Tram operates from 6am -1am (the next day) Saturday to Thursday and from 9am -1am (the next day) on Fridays. The ticket fare starts from Dhs3 while using a silver Nol card.

The Dubai Tram is powered by a ground-based electric supply system extending along the track. It is the world’s first tramway that deploys platform screen doors to offer convenience and security for passengers, according to the RTA’s website.

Ticket prices for a single journey using the silver Nol card will be Dhs3 while over the counter tickets are priced at Dhs6 for one journey.

To mark the Tram’s fifth anniversary, RTA is distributing prizes and gold bars to users, a statement said.

Key facilities at Dubai Tram

– Wifi access throughout the network
– Emergency call box in each train and station
– Integrated radio system between metro and emergency services
– Dedicated Tram police force
