Dubai’s flydubai launches inaugural flight to Yangon, Myanmar

Dubai carrier flydubai launched its inaugural flight to Yangon, Myanmar, on Wednesday, December 11, to include Southeast Asia in its network.

Dubai carrier Emirates will codeshare with these flights, and for the bookings under codeshare, Emirates passengers travelling on flydubai operated flights will be given complimentary meals and baggage allowance, a statement said.

The daily flights will take off from Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB), the statement said.

Sudhir Sreedharan, senior vice president, commercial operations for the UAE, GCC, subcontinent and Africa at flydubai, said: “We are confident that the new service will not only support the trade links between the UAE and Myanmar but also become a popular route for passengers travelling from the UAE and the GCC and for those connecting to Europe and the USA with Emirates.”

“We are delighted to receive a new international airline, which will not only maintain a direct flight to Middle East – Dubai, as the main feeder of the European and American markets to Yangon, but also for adding a new route to Krabi (Thailand), increasing YIA’s connections portfolio, which will definitely increase the number of passengers and visitors to Myanmar, as well as promote tourism in this particular case, amongst the three regions,” said Jose Angeja, chief operating officer at Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited, the operator of Yangon International Airport.

Flydubai marked its 10 years of operations in 2019, having launched its first flight in 2009.

In September, flydubai announced that effective October 27, flights to seven additional destinations – Almaty, Basra, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Nur-Sultan, Sofia, and Zanzibar – would move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB).

Flydubai also posted a loss of Dhs196.7m ($53.6m) for H1 2019, as the grounding of all of its MAX jets dented operations considerably.
