Home Industry Technology Apple appoints Greg Joswiak as new marketing head Joswiak replaces Phil Schiller who will step down from his position as vice president of global marketing and lead only the App Store and Apple events by Gulf Business August 5, 2020 Apple is now the world’s most valuable publicly traded company and has set itself apart from other competitors in the market. This has been possible due to a tremendous marketing drive that was for years spearheaded by Phil Schiller, who led Apple’s marketing division for many years. But Apple’s board of directors believes that the company needs new leadership for the marketing department, which is why Schiller will step down from his position as vice president of global marketing and lead only the App Store and Apple events. Schiller will be replaced by Greg Joswiak who earlier headed product marketing for Apple. As head of product marketing, Joswiak contributed to marketing Apple products globally over the past four years, and has held leadership positions in the company for nearly twenty years. Schiller meanwhile has worked with Apple since 1997 and helped it to be one of the most famous technology companies in the world today. Besides his work in marketing, he was strongly involved in the process of developing Apple products and usually introduced new products on-stage such as the previous Mac Pro. Lately, some of Schiller’s actions have been criticized, such as app store policies and his dismissal of the popular Hey email app. The US authorities introduced these policies during the antitrust hearing. All of this led to the decision to replace Schiller. However, Apple has named Schiller as “Apple Fellow” which company president Tim Cook said in a press statement allowed Schiller to continue to provide “incredible thought partnership and guidance.” Schiller has said he wants to set aside some time for family and friends and some personal projects too. At the same time, driving the App Store is a big task for him especially since it accounted for nearly 23 percent of Apple’s sales in the last fiscal quarter. This change in leadership is the largest since the departure of chief designer Johnny Ive late last year who did so to focus on his own projects.
