Home Education Abu Dhabi University offers 20% discount to healthcare workers and their families Students who receive the scholarship must maintain a GPA of no less than 3.0 by Varun Godinho August 12, 2020 The Abu Dhabi University (ADU) will offer all healthcare workers, their spouses and children a 20 per cent reduction in fees, in recognition of their work to help combat the Covid-19 pandemic. The fee reduction is available across undergraduate or postgraduate degrees at the university’s campuses in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai and Al Dhafra. Scholarship recipients will be able to choose from over 50 academic programmes within the first semester of the upcoming academic year 2020-2021, reported official news agency WAM. Students who receive the scholarship must maintain a GPA of no less than 3.0 and must also enroll in a prescribed number of hours each semester. Also, they must not repeat the same courses that they have previously taken to maintain their eligibility for the scholarship. “The ADU has been a major contributor to the UAE’s efforts in fighting this pandemic, since the outbreak of Covid-19. Recently, Abu Dhabi University’s research team succeeded in developing an advanced prototype for a face shield that has since been mass-produced and donated to hospitals across the emirate,” said Dr. Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, chairman of ADU’s Board of Directors. Read: Abu Dhabi University creates face shield prototype for healthcare sector “As we grow and expand to meet the healthcare needs of the UAE, the ADU has launched the College of Health Sciences, the most recent college established at Abu Dhabi University. It currently offers BSc programmes in Laboratory Medicine, Genetics and Molecular Medicine, Nutrition, as well as Environmental Health and Safety and Public Health, which all play an integral role in qualifying capable cadres for crisis management and dealing with disasters and epidemics such as Covid-19,” added Al Dhaheri. While all education institutions across the country switched to a remote learning model starting in March this year as a result of the pandemic, several of them have indicated their readiness and preparedness to resume face-to-face learning on-campus learning in the upcoming academic year starting next month. The country’s Ministry of Education has already issued a set of guidelines and precautionary measures that need to be implemented in schools and universities across the country as they prepare to reopen.
