Dubai’s foreign trade in medical sterilisers grows 23% to Dhs70m in H1

Exports rose by 20 per cent year-on-year to Dhs31m from Dhs25.7m, while re-exports stood at Dhs6.5m

Dubai Customs reported a 23 per cent growth in the value of Dubai’s foreign trade of sterilisers and disinfectants, which reached Dhs70m during the first half of this year.

In H1 2019, Dubai’s foreign trade in the same commodity amounted to Dhs56.8m.

Last June saw the highest rise in sterilisers trade by 95 per cent to record Dhs18m, compared to Dhs9.8m in June 2019.

Imports accounted for Dhs32.4m for the first half of this year, up 33 per cent compared to Dhs24.4m in H1 2019.

Exports rose by 20 per cent year-on-year to Dhs31m from Dhs25.7m, while re-exports stood at Dhs6.5m.

Nassim Al Mehairi, senior manager of Statistics and Studies at Dubai Customs, reaffirmed that Dubai Customs made special efforts during the Covid-19 period to facilitate the trade movement of food, medical and sterilization supplies into the local market to ensure availability of these critical supplies at competitive prices in line with the strategy of Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, reported state news agency WAM.

Customs centers and air cargo centers are ensuring that the inspection, clearance and release of medical and sterilizer shipments without delay.

In the first quarter of this year, Dubai’s external trade reached Dhs323bn with exports growing 2 per cent year-on-year to Dhs43bn.
