Ras Al Khaimah has been establishing itself as the hub for adventure activities in the UAE over the past few years and has garnered the attention of local residents and international tourists.

If you are a UAE resident looking for a quick escape during the weekend, here are some options in Ras Al Khaimah, depending on the kind of outing you prefer.

1. Adrenaline junkie with a love for the outdoors? Explore Jebel Jais

The highest peak in the UAE, Jebel Jais boasts a number of activities including a sky tour, sky maze, ice rink, and mountain climbing Via Ferrata.

But the leading attraction is Jebel Jais Flight, the world’s longest zip-line, certified by Guinness World Records, where visitors can ‘zip through’ the mountain, 1,680 metres above sea level at speeds up to 150kph.

The latest attraction in Jebel Jais is the UAE’s highest restaurant, 1484 by Puro, which opened on October 1 at the Jebel Jais Welcome Center.

 

2. Experience the peacefulness of a traditional Bedouin camp

Camping in the desert is not new for most UAE residents, but have you ever experienced an authentic overnight stay at a Bedouin camp?

Located deep in the desert and hidden from the public, the Bedouin Oasis Camp hosts plenty of activities and live entertainment for visitors. Experience dinner in the desert under the stars, live BBQ stations, desert safaris, camel safaris, quad bike tours, sand boarding, belly dancing, and more.

The village campsite provides a complete experience starting from a desert safari which picks you up from a predetermined location. Visitors can then participate the many activities offered at the village, including sandboarding, camel rides, and live BBQ stations.

The full safari and campsite experience is priced at Dhs251 per person. 

3. Time travel to the past with Jazirah Al Hamra

 Located to the south of the city of Ras Al Khaimah, Jazirah Al Hamra is one of the few existing traditional towns in the UAE. Believed to have been built in the 14^th century, the town was abandoned by its inhabitants by the mid 20^th century.

There have been various speculations surrounding the reasons for the abandonment of the village, including stories of ghost-haunting. However, that is not the only reason the spot is on the map – the place is also known for its unique architecture.

4. Traverse through the UAE’s highest fortress

Roughly 20km south of Ras Al Khaimah stands the formidable Dhayah fortress, known to be the highest fort in the UAE.

Set on a conical shaped hill at the foot of mountains and on the edge of palm gardens, the fortress was constructed in 1819 but was destroyed in 1891, fending off the British.

Later renovated in the 1990s, on the foundation of the older structures, the fortress maintains its elevated view of the sea, palm gardens, and mountains. 

5. Unwind in the therapeutic waters of Khatt Springs

Home to mineral-rich pools and a plethora of archeological sites, Khatt Springs is located 26km south of the city.

The springs are rich in history as items found dating back to the 17^th century were recovered from the site, indicating early settlements.

With the backdrop of mountains and surrounded by palm trees, the hot water springs offer a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Visitors can visit the pools or opt to stay at the adjoining Golden Tulip hotel and spa.

However, the hotel is temporarily closed but visitors can still experience the springs at Dhs52.5 per person while children under 13 years of age enter free.
