Expats in the UAE who have not renewed residence visas that expired between March 1 and July 11 will now start facing fines after a three-month grace period ended on October 11.

The UAE had given those with the expired permits time to renew their visas or exit the country by October 10, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) confirmed.

Those with expired residence visas will face overstay fines of Dhs25 per day for 180 days.

For those who overstay for more than six months, the daily fine amount is Dhs50. That figure increases to Dhs100 per day after a year.

The ICA began receiving visa renewal applications on July 12, after the UAE cabinet issued a directive to cancel a previous decision that automatically extended the validity of residency visas that expired after March 1, 2020 until year-end.
