The Saudi-led Arab coalition said on Wednesday that the Houthis had attacked the Abha International Airport.

It added that the attack resulted in civilian plane catching fire, although there are no reports yet of any injuries.

“We are taking the necessary measures to protect civilians from the threats of the Houthis,” local media cited coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki as saying.

This isn’t the first time that the Houthis have attacked Abha. A drone attack on the airport in 2019 left nine civilians injured and killed one person.

Earlier on Wednesday, the coalition forces said that they intercepted and destroyed two bomb-laden UAVs launched “systematically and deliberately by the terrorist Houthi militia to target civilians and civilian objects in Southern Region”, reported state-run Saudi Press Agency.
