New Covid-19 testing rule for passengers flying into Sharjah

Authorities in Sharjah have implemented a new rule that would require all passengers flying into Sharjah International Airport to produce a Covid-19-negative test result that is not older than 72 hours.

Previously, these results had a validity of up to 96 hours.

Also, all passengers must take another test upon arrival in Sharjah.

The local Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team (ECDMT) issued these directive on Tuesday, April 13. The implementation of the decision begins five days after its publication, ECDMT said in an announcement.

It added that the new procedures were required as part of the emirate’s efforts to curb the spread of the virus.

Additional guidelines include adhering to the preventive measures followed in the countries of the passenger’s destination with the necessity of having health insurance when travelling abroad.

As of Tuesday, the UAE reported reported a total of 487,697, including 471,906 recoveries and 1,537 fatalities.

Last month, health authorities in Sharjah opened a new Covid-19 field hospital called the Mohamed Bin Zayed Field Hospital. It includes 204 beds, 48 of which are for intensive care and 156 for moderate and severe cases.
