Home GCC UAE Abu Dhabi’s Etihad offers talabat users option to offset carbon emissions with every order In partnership with CarbonClick, the project will offset each ride made by a talabat rider through Etihad Guest’s Miles on the Go programme by Varun Godinho January 25, 2022 Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, through its Etihad Guest loyalty programme, has expanded its ongoing partnership with food delivery platform talabat to offer a carbon-offset option for its members until December 2023. In partnership with CarbonClick, the project will offset each ride made by a talabat rider through Etihad Guest’s Miles on the Go programme. The airline noted that the offsets will be invested in the Sichuan Household Biogas Programme through Etihad’s partner CarbonClick. The project helps Chinese farmers recycle farm waste into clean energy, which can be used for cooking, heating, or lighting instead of coal and firewood. Etihad Guest members can therefore contribute to the overall Conscious Choices sustainability initiative that the airline recently launched. Conscious Choices has been created to support Etihad’s ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, and halve its 2019 emissions by 2035. “We are very proud of our Conscious Choices initiative and our venture with talabat through the Miles on the Go rogramme is an example of our constant strive to find new and innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Kim Hardaker, director loyalty and partnerships at Etihad Airways. Etihad has previously collaborated with talabat on whereby Etihad Guest members can now earn and spend Etihad Guest Miles when ordering food, groceries and other essentials on the talabat platform. Etihad Guest members can user their app to register their Visa cards and earn one mile for every Dhs3 spent on the talabat platform using the linked card. The app will also allow members to either earn or redeem miles on the transaction. Onur Elgun, vice president of Strategy at talabat, added: “As a company, we are stepping up our efforts to contribute to a more sustainable future focusing on offsetting and reducing our carbon footprint. We’re very proud to continue expanding our partnership with Etihad Airways, especially in this area, and supporting them in their carbon offsetting goals.” Apart from the Conscious Choices programme for individual customers, Etihad has also rolled out a corporate green loyalty programme called Corporate Conscious Choices. It has been designed for organisations seeking to reduce their carbon emissions by way of initiatives such as carbon offsetting, sustainable aviation fuel investments and green surcharge fares.
