United Kingdom: King Charles III proclaimed as new monarch

King Charles III was formally confirmed as the new British monarch on September 10, two days after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

King Charles III was proclaimed king at the Accession Council at St James’s Palace in a televised ceremony earlier today. Camilla Parker, the king’s wife of 17 years, is the new Queen Consort.

His Majesty The King will be proclaimed at the Accession Council at 10:00 today at St James’s Palace.

Meanwhile, tributes poured in from across the UK and around the world to honour Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history. She passed away at Balmoral Castle on September 8, at the age of 96.

A day after the demise of Queen Elizabeth III, King Charles III addressed the nation and the Commonwealth.

“Throughout her life, Her Majesty the Queen – my beloved mother was an inspiration, an example to me and to all my family and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family could owe to their mother, for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example,” he said.

The king also announced Prince William and Catherine as the Prince and Princess of Wales.

“Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”

King Charles III had also met with the newly appointed Prime Minister of the UK, Liz Truss.

In other news, Buckingham Palace has announced that the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19.
