During the visit, ways of enhancing cooperation in fish farming, achieving net-zero targets, mangrove plantation and the UAE’s preparations for the COP28 climate summit were discussed. As per the agreement, the two sides will exchange best practices, and conduct joint research in the fields of environmental preservation, enhancing air quality, biodiversity conservation, achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), and preparing sustainable development progress reports, official news agency WAM reported. Almheiri explained that the UAE seeks to encourage the implementation of eco-friendly solutions to address environmental challenges. The visit included meetings with Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, chairman of Oman’s Environment Authority, and Dr Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of Oman. Oman is looking to diversify its economy and has signed a string of cross-border agreements. Investment MoUs were inked between public and private sectors of Saudi Arabia and Oman recently, covering various sectors, including renewable energy and green hydrogen. Read: Saudi Arabia, Oman sign 13 investment agreements, value exceeds SAR1bn In recent news, Oman and Etihad Rail Company, the developer and operator of the UAE-Oman Rail Network, and Mubadala have inked a cooperation agreement to develop the 303km railway network, which will connect Oman and the UAE, at an overall investment value of 3bn. The partnership aims to support the Oman and Etihad Rail Company in accelerating the planning and execution process of the railway network. The signing of the agreement follows the establishment of the company, a joint venture established by Oman Rail, the country’s national developer and operator of railway networks, and Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s National Rail Network, under a deal signed last September between the two companies.
