Turkey’s President Erdogan meets Saudi Crown Prince, gifts electric car: Watch

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, received Turkey’s President Recep Tayyep Erdogan at the Royal Court at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah on Monday evening, reported Saudi Press Agency.

The Turkish president has embarked on a Gulf tour with the first stop in Jeddah after winning a third Presidential term earlier this year. He is being accompanied by a delegation of government ministers and officials and business leaders.

The Crown Prince and the Turkish President held bilateral meetings which discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the kingdom and Turkey. They also oversaw the signing of agreements in the fields of energy, defence production, research and development, investment, and media.

Saudi Arabia held an official reception ceremony in honour of the visiting Turkish President.

The two sides reviewed aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries, prospects for joint cooperation and opportunities for development in various fields, in addition to discussing regional and international developments, reported Saudi Press Agency.

The discussion was attended by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy; Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Sports; Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior; Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defence; Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Attendees from the Turkish side included Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan; Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar; Minister of National Defence Yasar Guler; Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir; Minister of Trade Omer Bolat; and Necmettin Bilal Erdogan, son of the Turkish President, along with other high-level officials.

The two countries signed a series of bilateral agreements – in the field of energy, to enhance cooperation in the fields of capabilities, defence industries, and research and development. The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of direct investment, media, and two contracts with the Turkish company Baykar.

Turkey’s Togg

After the completion of the ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyep Erdogan gifted Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with an electric car called Togg, which has been domestically produced in Turkey. The two leaders tested the Togg model, Turkey’s first electric car brand, in the courtyard of Al Salam Royal Palace, the Anadolu news agency reported.

Erdogan’s next stop will be Qatar and the last leg of the Gulf tour is Abu Dhabi, where the Turkish president is set to hold talks with UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
