Atlantis The Royal in Dubai has been named among the World’s 50 Best Hotels.

The latest addition to the Atlantis Hotel group, owned by Dubai’s sovereign wealth fund, ranked 44th in the list which includes properties from 35 locations across six continents.

Atlantis Royal opened just eight months ago and has had consistent demand. Timothy Kelly, managing director of Atlantis Dubai said in a recent interview, the new hotel’s occupancy rate has been “near 80 per cent” while the average daily rate is $1,200, he added.

Atlantis The Royal is an ultra-luxury property of 795 rooms, suites and penthouses. It houses Michelin-starred restaurants as well curated experiences for its guests.

On making it to the list, Kelly, said, “Being recognised on the inaugural list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels, just eight months after opening in Dubai, is a remarkable achievement that fills us with immense pride and gratitude. This accolade reflects the dedication and passion of all our colleagues in providing exceptional experiences to our guests from day one. We are truly grateful to Kerzner International for their unwavering support and are more motivated than ever to continue raising the bar and setting new standards of excellence in hospitality.”

The top spot in the coveted list was awarded to Passalacqua in Moltrasio, Lake Como, Italy. The waterfront property is a new entrant to Italy’s hospitality scene as it opened its doors to visitors just a year ago.

Along with Italy, other European countries garnered a number of top spots in the list. London alone had four hotels on the list: Claridge’s (No.16), The Connaught (No.22), NoMad London (No.46) and The Savoy (No.47).

Meanwhile, luxury hotel properties across Asia took 18 spots on the inaugural edition of the list. The No.2 spot was won by Rosewood Hong Kong, a 413-key property.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels is a list curated by The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, that brings together more than 580 independent leaders, each selected for their expert opinion of the international hotel scene. The World’s 50 Best Hotels event programme, including the awards ceremony and unveiling of the list was held on September 19.

Tim Brooke-Webb, managing director for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, said, “Our heartfelt congratulations go out to every hotel on the list, each of which has clearly made a lasting impression on our Academy of travel experts. After seeing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry, it’s been especially fulfilling to see so many hoteliers from around the world gather in London to celebrate each other’s achievements under one roof for the first-ever awards ceremony for The World’s 50 Best Hotels. We hope this list inspires travel lovers to book somewhere truly spectacular for their next trip.”
