Dubai’s Drake & Scull Wins Dhs304 Million Contract In India

Dubai-based contractor Drake & Skull International (DSI) announced that it has won a construction contract worth Dhs304 million in India.

The contract includes the construction of a new 400 kilovolt (kv) transmission line in the northern state of Uttarakhand, which is a part of the Uttarakhand Power Sector Investment Program project.

The company will also undertake the survey, design, fabrication and supply of the 152-kilometre long transmission line towers, supply of conductors and insulators along with the testing and commissioning of the entire transmission line, it said in a statement.

“The construction of the power transmission line will help supply up to 2,500 megawatts of electricity to the North India grid, which is underdeveloped and overstretched at present,” said Ahmad Al Naser, managing director of Drake & Scull Engineering.

“We are currently undertaking projects worth Dhs365million in India where we have already proved our credentials in the power sector by delivering a thermal power project and the Coal Conveyor system in Orissa besides the solar power project in Tamil Nadu in the past.”

He added that DSI is also looking to bid for upcoming projects in the rail sector in India.

DSI has been expanding its operations to various sectors in India. The company’s German subsidiary recently won two contracts worth Dhs49.3 million for the construction of wastewater treatment plants in Ahmedabad and Rajasthan.

Aside from its recent project win, the company is currently working on projects like New Cuffe Parade and the Lodha World Crest Tower in Mumbai.

DSI made a net profit of Dhs45.7 million during the first three months of 2014, down from Dhs62.7 million in the corresponding period of last year.
