Home Transport Aviation Emirates Launches A380 On Dubai-Singapore Route The Dubai carrier will use Airbus’ superjumbo on a permanent service, giving a 46 per cent rise in seat capacity. by Neil Churchill September 19, 2012 Emirates is to boost its Dubai-Singapore route with the introduction of a permanent Airbus A380 service from December 1 – the only airline to offer an A380 plane on the route. Dubai’s flagship airline is launching the fixed service on the back of strong passenger demand in both directions, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER. The Airbus superjumbo seats 517 passengers in comparison to the 777’s 354 seats – a 46 per cent increase. The added seats afforded by the A380 increases Emirates’ total Singapore capacity to 1,659 seats a day, across four daily services. The launch also signifies Changi Airport’s status as a South East Asian hub as it connects through to key end of the line destinations such as Brisbane, Melbourne and Colombo. Salem Obaidalla, senior vice president of Emirates’ Commercial Operations, said: “Emirates is currently operating a two week ad-hoc Airbus A380 service between Dubai and Singapore which has received extremely positive responses from our passengers. In light of this we have decided to bring our flagship aircraft to Singapore on a permanent basis. “This follows our progressive build-up of services on this route over the last few years. Despite the current global economic uncertainty, we remain committed to the Singapore market adding significant seat capacity…which is set to foster tourism and trade between Singapore, Dubai and beyond.” Last year Emirates increased its frequency of flights on the Singapore-Dubai route with seven additional weekly flights, bringing the total number out of Singapore to 28 – the most number of direct Singapore-Dubai flights offered by any airline. 0 Comments
