Roads and Transport Authority-owned Dubai Taxi Corporation has launched a 24-hour limousine chauffeur rival to Uber and Careem.

The service, for customers in the tourist sector including hotels, tour operators and airline companies, as well as government entities, can be booked via email, a visit to the DTC customer service office at Dubai International Terminal 3 or through the DTC Limo smart app.

Reports last year suggested Uber and its regional rival Careem were facing a crackdown from the RTA, including fines of up to Dhs 2,000 for drivers.

The authority was also rumoured to be preparing a circular reminding car hire companies in the emirate of existing regulation including keeping prices at a minimum of 30 per cent above taxi fares and not making airport and hotel pickups.

“The service is offered at competitive rates and at a variety of metre-based fare options varying according to areas and the timing. Booking can be easily completed through the website, smart phone apps, e-mail, or telephone. Well turned out, decent and professional chauffeurs are provided along with modern and deluxe vehicles, 24/7 customers care centre, and reception services at Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at the Dubai Airports,” said DTC chief executive Yousef Al Ali.

He added that customers would be greeted upon arrival at Dubai’s airports with a digital board and offered assistance in carrying their bags before being accompanied to a VIP lounge area.

DTC manages over 4,600 cabs in the emirates including the standard taxi, Hala Taxi, Ladies & Families Taxi, Airport Taxi, Hatta Taxi, Hybrid Taxi, and the VIP Taxi. It employs more than 11,000 drivers.
