Oman Air pens codeshare deal with Saudia

Oman Air has signed a codeshare deal with Saudi Arabian Airlines, covering services between Muscat and four destinations in the kingdom.

The deal has allowed customers book flights through either airline between Muscat and Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, or Medina from June 29.

Currently the Omani carrier flies double-daily flights between Muscat and Riyadh, double-daily flights between Muscat and Jeddah, up to two flights per day between Muscat and Dammam and daily flights between Muscat and Medina with a mixture of Boeing 737, 787 and Airbus 300 aircraft.

Saudia operates flights from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Medina to Muscat using Airbus 320 aircraft.

“This new partnership will deliver even greater choice and convenience for customers of both airlines,” said Oman Air SVP of network and revenue management Aboudy Nasser. “It is a pleasure to be working alongside Saudi Arabian Airlines and we look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.”

Oman Air said the deal was part of its strategy to increase customer choice, convenience and connectivity and boost its network to 75 destinations by 2020.

The airline’s other codeshare deals offer access to Asia, Australasia, Africa and Europe.

“There is a natural synergy between the national carriers of our respective countries and customers are sure to appreciate the increased choice and convenience that this codeshare offers,” said Saudia VP of network and revenue management Khalid Albassam.

Last year the Omani government approved a restructuring of Oman Air, including the creation of subsidiaries and ventures to handle some businesses.
