Sheikh Mohammed, Saudi king congratulate Trump

UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US presidential election.

Taking to Twitter, he said: “We offer our congratulations and best wishes both to President Elect Donald Trump and to the American people.”

Saudi’s state news agency SPA also said that King Salman wished Trump success in “achieving security and stability in the Middle East and the wider world”.

Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi also congratulated Trump and called for stronger ties.

“The Egyptian Arab Republic is looking forward to the period of Donald Trump’s presidency to imbue new spirit into the path of Egyptian-American ties with more cooperation and coordination in the interests of both the Egyptian and American people,” he said in a statement.

Sisi also spoke on the telephone to the new US President elect, Reuters reported.

“The U.S. President-elect Donald Trump expressed his utmost appreciation to the president, pointing out that his was the first international call he had received to congratulate him on winning the election,” a statement said.

“President Trump said he looked forward to meeting the president (again) soon.”

The Republican candidate beat rival Hillary Clinton in several key states to be elected as the 45th president of the United States. In his victory speech, Trump called for a united stand looking forward.

“I say it is time for us to come together as one united people,” he said.

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans and this is so important to me.”

The controversial US businessman, who famously declared plans for a ban on Muslims entering the country during his candidacy for the Republican Party, also sought to assure people around the world about what his presidency will mean.

“While we will always put America’s interests first, we will deal fairly with everyone – with everyone. We will seek common ground, not hostility,” Trump said.
