Sultan Bin Khalifa Foundation to establish $60m Abu Dhabi cancer treatment centre

The Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Foundation has announced plans to setup a Dhs220m ($59.8m) cancer treatment centre in Abu Dhabi.

The cancer centre in Al Shahamh will offer therapeutic services to nearly 1,300 patients annually in the UAE and abroad, including proton beam therapy

HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, adviser to the UAE President and supreme chairman of the Foundation, signed a partnership with the Britain’s Proton Group, Kuwait’s Al-Sayer Group and Qatar’s Al-Fardan Group to implement the project.

The foundation is also setting up the first centre for bone marrow implantation in the UAE and recently established two centres for the treatment of thalassaemia.

“The new cancer centre will serve about 1,300 patients annually, and is expected to start providing therapeutic services from the last quarter of 2018,” said Dr Mahdi Ali Fardan Al Fardan, chairman of Proton Centre in Abu Dhabi.

The new cancer centre will treat all types of the disease and comes as the UAE seeks to offer increasingly complex treatments to lure medical tourists and limit the number of citizens travelling abroad for treatment.
