Home UAE Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi Airport Sees 10% Rise In Nov Passenger Traffic Over 13.4 million passengers passed through the capital’s airport in the first 11 months of this year. by Aarti Nagraj December 25, 2012 Passenger traffic at the Abu Dhabi International airport increased 10 per cent year-on-year in November 2012 to reach 1.21 million people, the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said in a statement. Bangkok, Doha, London Heathrow, Manila and Bahrain were the top five routes for November, and collectively accounted for 21 per cent of the total passenger traffic for the month, said ADAC. Aircraft movements also rose by 7.9 per cent to reach 10,711, while cargo traffic figures increased 18 per cent, with over 49,896 tonnes of freight handled throughout the month. The growth figures in November follow a 17.3 per cent year-on-year passenger traffic increase in October 2012, said ADAC. It attributed the growth last month to the Hajj and Eid season along with the start of Formula One at the end of October. Overall, the Abu Dhabi airport witnessed a 19.3 per cent year-on-year rise in passengers over the last 11 months to reach 13.4 million people. Ahmad Al Haddabi, chief operations officer of ADAC, stated: “Such figures are an indication as to the position of the capital’s airport as a major international aviation hub.” Earlier this week, Dubai International Airport also announced that passenger traffic rose 10 per cent year-on-year in November to 4.88 million people.
