Abu Dhabi approves infrastructure projects worth Dhs241m

The Abu Dhabi Executive Council has approved infrastructure projects worth Dhs241m, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Council’s executive committee, chaired by Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, has approved projects related to improving power supply and developing roads, official news agency WAM reported.

They include a Dhs55m project to increase the capacity of the electricity grid in Al Ain and its suburbs, which will include the installation of an additional transformer, six integrated primary stations and 13km of power and optical fiber cables.

The committee also approved a Dhs45m project to set up a new transfer plant in Zakher in a bid to develop all the elements of an integral power system.

A maintenance and restoration project for internal roads and bridges in Abu Dhabi mainland (south), at a cost of Dhs76m was also approved.

It further approved maintenance, restoration and asset management projects for main roads in region 3, western sector, at a cost of over 21m.

The executive committee also awarded a Dhs42m contract for the fourth stage of the project for constructing internal roads and infrastructure in Al Falah area. This will include upgrading the current two-lane road into a three-lane road in each direction, turning the current U-turns into intersections with traffic lights and establishing a new inlet and outlet to the area.

The second package of the integral land car park project in the island of Abu Dhabi was also adopted, the report said.

An annual allocation was also set aside for a project on soil treatment and soil quality improvement in various locations of the emirate. Studies and tests will be conducted on soil samples from various regions and real estate developers will have to conduct necessary geophysical, geotechnical and topographic studies before planning new projects, the report stated.

The committee also approved the design and development of a training incubator for crafts-and-heritage project ‘Productive Families’ at the General Women’s Union headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The project is expected to promote productivity and self-employment among Emirati families and help revive traditional crafts and heritage industries.
