Abu Dhabi to levy Dhs 35 airport fee

Abu Dhabi is planning to impose a Dhs 35 fee on passengers departing and transiting from its airport from July, according to reports.

A new resolution to introduce the fee was passed by the Executive Council, local daily Al Ittihad reported.

“Every passenger departing from Abu Dhabi’s airports will have to pay Dhs 35 as fee, however children below two years of age will be exempt,” it said.

The fee will also not be imposed on those transiting on the same flight number and airline crew.

The announcement comes two months after Sharjah and Dubai announced plans to levy a similar airport fee.

The fee of Dhs 35 will be imposed on all passengers exiting or transiting from the Dubai and Sharjah airports.

Children below two years and cabin crew members will be exempt from the tax.

In Dubai, officials confirmed that airlines will collect the fee while issuing tickets, effective from March 1, 2016 for flights departing after June 30, 2016.

The collected fees will be transferred to Dubai Airports and subsequently to the Dubai government public treasury.



The United Arab Emirates is looking to boost its diversification strategy as low oil prices continue to weigh on revenues.

The country was the first to cut fuel subsidies and also has also announced plans to introduce value added tax in the next two years.
