The move is part of a broader strategy by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) to develop an integrated and smart public transportation system that supports local development. The ITC said the ART contributes to enhancing mobility options for residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi. The transport regulator said its teams have exerted great efforts to build a highly efficient and fully integrated infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of safety, comfort, and quality for customers. The pilot phase includes 25 stations along routes extending for about 27 km, paving the way for a new and distinctive phase of technological development in the transport sector. The service operates from Friday to Sunday during its initial phase, and runs from Al Reem Mall to Marina Mall, passing along Zayed the First Street and Corniche Street on Abu Dhabi Island. The rail-less train project is part of the city’s smart mobility strategy, which aims to establish an effective and sustainable transport sector that leverages innovative technologies to enhance the efficiency of the transport system while supporting the transition to sustainable means of transport. The strategy also reinforces the UAE’s sustainable development goals and reduces carbon emissions in line with the country’s commitment to preserve the environment. The project also serves to diversify mobility options, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life and Abu Dhabi’s position as one of the leading destinations to live, work in, and visit.
