In a tweet, the emirate’s police force said Sheikh Zayed Tunnel would remain closed for three days to allow upgrading work to take place. Motorists are warned that the tunnel will be inaccessible in the direction towards Abu Dhabi from Wednesday, January 10 to Saturday, January 13. The closure times will be 12am to 5:30am each day and 12am to 11:30am on Friday, January 12. Traffic will be diverted to the Sea Palace Tunnel during those times. Authorities began work on Dhs109m ($29.6m) of improvement to the tunnel last June that saw three northbound lanes and two heading south closed for maintenance. The closed lanes were scheduled to reopen today. Other work includes a 400m slipway between Sheikh Zayed Road and the tunnel between Al Falah Street and Hazza bin Zayed Street that is scheduled to be finished by August 2019. The Sheikh Zayed Tunnel was completed in December 2012.
