The capital of the UAE will see the management of its prisons change hands early next year.

The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nayhan, in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, has issued a law regarding punitive and correctional establishments in the emirate.

This law will see the roles of managing such establishments, as well as juvenile facilities, transfer from Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters to the emirate’s Judicial Department.

The new law will continue to foster rehabilitation of prison inmates

Effective as of January 1, 2024, the law will contribute to fostering the rehabilitation and correctional ecosystem in the emirate, according to a report published by Abu Dhabi Media Office.

In other news, Dubai Public Prosecution launched a new service that enables people involved in a criminal case to pay the issued fine and automatically have their travel ban revoked after the court’s verdict is issued.

After the fine payment, the smart service aligns with Dubai Police to cancel arrest warrants and stop searches for individuals.

The Smart Fine Payment digital service aims at speeding up the procedures for implementing judgments in absentia and increase the rate of execution.
