Abu Dhabi’s Kizad Awards Dhs100m Contract to UAE Firm

Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) announced that it has awarded a Dhs100 million contract for the construction of phase 1 of its pre-built warehousing (PBWH) to UAE-based System Construct.

The PBWH project has been divided into three phases, with a total of 105 units, with the first phase covering an area of 46,453 m2.

The first units under the project will be delivered in the fourth quarter of the year, Kizad said in a statement.

System Construct previously constructed Kizad’s existing show warehouse.

“We have been encouraged, not just by the significant interest shown in our pre-built warehouse project, but also by the uptake and commitments we have seen from both local and international companies,” said Charles Acworth, head of Project Development at Kizad.

Kizad, part of the Abu Dhabi Ports Company’s Dhs26.5 billion megaproject, is spread across 417 square km and was launched in 2010. The area for the first phase alone covers 52 square km. The cluster targets the aluminium, steel, trade and petrochemicals industries, among others.

Speaking to Gulf Business last month, Kizad’s CEO and managing director Khaled Salmeen revealed that they had already signed deals with 50 companies so far.

“Emirates Aluminium (Emal) is already operational and in phase II. They started simultaneously because they are building a massive project, spread across six square km, even bigger than Manama,” he said.

When fully operational, Kizad hopes to create 150,000 jobs – directly and indirectly – and contribute to around 15 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil GDP by 2030.
