Facilitated by funding from the Executive Council, the development of Delma Port will include 300 metres of concrete wharf designed for heavy loads. The port will also include new floating pontoons creating a marine that will accommodate more than 280 boats. The development is also expected to boost the existing facilities for local fishermen and improve the provision of water sports. Ferry services and other public amenities will also receive more support from the development. Delma Port, which lies around 40 kilometres off the coast of Abu Dhabi’s western region, is a crucial transportation hub to and from the island. It is used for transportation of general cargo and as a tourist destination. “The development of Delma Port is one of the biggest projects in the Western Region, marking another milestone in supporting and helping develop the local communities and the establishment of sustainable businesses which will guarantee diversified economic strength, in line with Al Gharbia Vision 2030,” said Mohamed Al Shamisi, acting CEO, ADPC. A recent report released by the Western Region Development Council revealed that the region is one of the most important economic and investment areas in the UAE. Al Gharbia, or the Western Region, represents 60 per cent of the land area of Abu Dhabi and contributes 45 per cent of its GDP. 0 Comments
