Al Jaber Crushers & Quarries, a subsidiary of UAE-based Al Jaber Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Etihad Rail to utilise rail transport for its logistics operations, the company said in a statement.

As per the deal, by 2019, Al Jaber will be able to transport its various products including stones, sand and other aggregated material from its loading station at Shawkah in Ras Al Khaimah to offloading stations at Port Saqr, Jebel Ali in Dubai, Abu Dhabi Industrial City and Al Ruwais in Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain.

“Al Jaber Group will witness significant benefits from our future rail operations. We are proud to work with established national companies and this is an important part of our strategy. Our services will provide UAE organisations with sustainable solutions in transportation and logistics,” said Eng. Faris Al Mazrouei, acting CEO of Etihad Rail.

“We look forward to benefiting from this 1,200 kilometers national rail network in the logistical operations of Al Jaber Crushers & Quarries,” said Khalifa Obaid Al Jaber, Al Jaber Group board member.

Etihad Rail also signed two similar deals this month with the Western Bainoona Group (WBG), a group specialising in construction, land transportation and crushers, and Quarry Firm Tarmac ME, a subsidiary of the UK-based quarry firm Tarmac Limited, to transport materials through the rail network.

The Dhs40 billion Etihad Rail project, spanning almost 1,200 kilometres, will transport both freight and passengers across the UAE. The railway line will be built in three phases with the first phase scheduled to be completed by 2014.
