As the Eid Al Adha dates for the public sector have already been announced, this means that the employees must return to their offices on Monday, August 3. The decision was conveyed via a circular issued by the department to all local government authorities, reported official news agency WAM. The circular cancels the previous exemptions granted to specific categories of employees to return to work. However, employees with chronic diseases will be exempted from the requirements to return, provided they furnish a medical report approved by the health authorities and which will be subsequently approved by the emirate’s medical committee. It also stipulates that all previous circulars from the department related to remote work will still be in-force, unless they contradict the new circular. The department stressed the need for government authorities to comply with current safety standards and precautionary measures, to ensure the continuity of business and protect the safety of employees and customers. Other emirates across the country have also mandated full attendance of government employees in the workplace. All Sharjah government employees returned to their offices on July 19, with exemptions made only for those with chronic diseases.
