Cathay Pacific Moves Dubai Freighter Operations To DWC

Cathay Pacific has announced it will move its freighter operations from Dubai International to Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC) from 1 February, 2014.

Hong Kong’s national airline uses Dubai as its transit hub for its seven weekly freighter services to European destinations including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Manchester, Paris and Milan.

The carrier said its 14 weekly passenger services will continue to operate through Dubai International.

“Dubai is an important market and a major transit point for Cathay Pacific,” said Brian Yeun, Cathay Pacific country manager for UAE and Qatar.

“Delivering service and operational excellence to our customers has been the core of our business for decades.

“DWC is designed to support logistics well into the future and we believe the move will better serve us and bring our service level to a new high.”

DWC began freighter operations in the summer of 2010 with business flights starting in 2011. Commercial flights began earlier this year.

Helen Woodrow, VP of forecasting & research at Dubai Airports, described the move as a significant development for the new aviation facility.
