The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced the provision of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine for children and adolescents between the ages of 3-17.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) took to Twitter on Monday, August 2, to announce that the decision comes in the wake of clinical trials and evaluations in the country, and is based on the emergency use authorisation and local assessments in line with regulations.

The UAE’s health ministry announced in June that it had initiated a Sinopharm immune bridge study for children aged 3 to 17, making it the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to conduct a study of the vaccine’s effectiveness for this age group.

In May, officials from the health ministry also approved the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children between the ages of 12 to 15.
