Covid-19: Bahrain registers third death, UAE reports 50 new cases

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UAE now stands at 248

The Ministry of Health in Bahrain announced on Tuesday the death of a 65-year-old national who was suffering from chronic health problems, and was also an active Covid-19 case.

The deceased male had returned from Iran via an indirect flight, and was quarantined while receiving the requisite treatment.

Excluding two cases who remain critical, all other active Covid-19 cases are stable, the ministry asserted.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE announced 50 new cases of the Covid-19 infection, official news agency WAM reported.

The newly diagnosed cases were among individuals who had close contact with previously infected patients as well as those who returned from abroad.

The total number of confirmed cases in the UAE now stands at 248.

Of the new infectees, one each hails from Sri Lanka, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Tunisia, South Africa, Belgium, South Korea, Bulgaria, France, Czech Republic, Australia, Lebanon, Kenya, Maldives, Sudan, Iran, Ireland, Morocco, Pakistan, and Sweden; two each from Italy, Egypt, UAE, Spain, Netherlands, Jordan, the Philippines; and three each from the US, Bangladesh, and Palestine, while six are from India.

All individuals remain in stable condition and are receiving the necessary medical care.

Four additional individuals have overcome the disease, bringing the total number of recovered cases in the country to 45.

Authorities have advised the public to comply with healthy practices to protect themselves.

The UAE government has urged people to stay at home and only leave for running essential tasks in what has been a series of measures undertaken to try and halt the spread of the contagion.

Government and private sector employees have also started working remotely from home, except those in essential and critical functions.
