UAE data laws: Cybercrime offenders to face up to 5 years in prison, huge fines
This is according to Article 8 of Federal Decree Law no. 34 of 2021, on combatting rumours and cybercrimes
The Public Prosecution in the UAE has reiterated the consequences of breaking a law related to cybercrimes.
According to the authority, “infringement of data pertaining to financial, commercial or economic institutions” could face imprisonment for five years or more, along with fines ranging from Dhs500,000 to Dhs3m.

Cybercrime penalties
Data infringement penalties can apply to anyone who “obtains, acquires, modifies, destroys, divulges, makes available, cancels, deletes, amends, reproduces, publishes or republishes any confidential information or data pertaining to a financial, commercial or economic institution using information technology or information technology means.”
This is according to Article 8 of Federal Decree Law no 34 of 2021, on combatting rumours and cybercrimes.
