These stations are mainly spread across Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens, Airport City, Wadi Al Safa, and Al Yafra 2. Rashid bin Humaidan, executive vice president of Distribution Power at DEWA, said that the total number of 33kV medium voltage distribution stations currently in service has reached 79 stations while the number of 11kV medium voltage stations has reached 41,722. “DEWA’s advanced digital infrastructure and its use of the latest Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicles, energy storage, blockchain, and internet of things, support our efforts in protecting our gains and accomplishments despite the exceptional circumstances the whole world is going through as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA. The total cost of those projects was recorded at just over Dhs430m. Those substations supply Al Barsha 1, Mirdif, and Wadi Al Safa 2 communities within Dubai. DEWA’s assets has reached Dhs200bn with investments of over Dhs86bn in five years to meet Dubai’s growing electricity and water demands. The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050 aim to provide 100 per cent of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. Clean energy share has reached 10 per cent of Dubai’s energy mix, surpassing the target of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 7 per cent of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2020. DEWA has projects with a capacity of 1,850 MW underway using photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) in addition to other phases to reach 5,000MW by 2030. Dubai has also met its target of the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy, two years ahead of schedule. Carbon emissions in Dubai dropped by 22 per cent in 2019, surpassing the target of reducing 16 per cent of emissions by 2021.
