Dhs500m Sharjah Project Set for 2017 Completion

The Dhs500 million Sir Bu Nair Island project in Sharjah is set for 2017 completion, announced Sharjah’s investment and development authority (Shurooq).

Located 65km off the UAE coastline the island will be home to hotel apartments, villas, a luxury five-star hotel, a museum, a village, an amphitheatre, an education centre, a mosque, a harbour, retail outlets and an airport.

“The aim of this landmark project is to turn this vitally important island into a unique destination, one that offers a mix of high-end luxury and comfort, one that fosters a genuine sense of community, and one that captures the region’s vibrancy and cultural heritage in its architecture and offerings,” said Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq.

“The project will stretch over an area of 37,721 square metres, making it one of Shurooq’s most ambitious undertakings to date and the result is set to become one of the rarest gems in the crown of Sharjah and the U.A.E.’s tourist destinations,” added Al Sarkal.

The luxury hotel will feature 60 one bedroom suits, beach houses and chalets, in addition to 17 suites and chalets to be located on Turtle beach, in the second part of the hotel.

The project will also see the construction of  a 9,693 square metre village which will include 30 two and three bedroom simplex and duplex apartments, in addition to two two-bedroom villas, a VIP villa, 10 three-bedroom villas, and four four-bedroom villas.

An activity centre with 22 six-bed chalets for students will also be included to accomodate educational programs to take place on the island.

Shurooq’s upcoming projects include the Kalba Eco-tourism Project, The Heart of Sharjah and Al Bait Hotel and Al Jabal Resort – The Chedi Khorfakkan. The company has already launched projects including Al Montazah Amusement and Water Park, the Al Majaz Waterfront and Al Qasba.

The emirate hosts around 3000 events every year including the Formula One Power Boat World Championship, Sharjah Light Festival, Sharjah Heritage Days, Sharjah Theatre Days and the Sharjah Biennial.

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) recorded a 10 per cent increase in tourist arrivals last year. The emirate received 1,391,632 tourists from January to September 2013 against 1,263,908 over the same period in the previous year.
