Drive-through Covid-19 vaccine centres to be introduced across the UAE

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) confirmed on Wednesday, January 20, that it would build additional Covid-19 vaccination centres, including drive-through services, across the UAE, reported news agency WAM.

These will be operated by Abu Dhabi Healthcare Services (SEHA) and will increase the number of locations where Covid-19 vaccines are available in the UAE, to 218, including healthcare facilities and majalis.

All UAE citizens and residents 16 years and above are eligible to receive the vaccine.

The DoH has teamed up with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) to collaborate on a nationwide campaign to vaccinate at least half of the eligible population against the virus by the end of March.

As of January 19, the UAE administered a total of 2,065,367 shots to citizens and residents in the country, with a vaccine distribution rate of 20.88 per 100 persons.

“Vaccinations are the safest and most effective way to curb the spread of Covid-19 and ensure the health and safety of our community. By joining forces with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, we are accelerating the goal of vaccinating 50 per cent of those eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine by the end of March,” said AbdulRahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention.

The UAE is offering the Sinopharm vaccine for free across the country, while Dubai is also providing the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in a phased manner.

“The Covid-19 vaccines have undergone rigorous scientific and regulatory processes to ensure their safety, efficacy and quality. I encourage everyone to choose to vaccinate, without hesitation, to protect themselves and the health of our nation,” said Sheikh Abdullah Al Hamed, chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.

The UAE reported 3,506 additional Covid-19 infections on January 20, its highest ever daily spike in new cases since the pandemic broke out early last year.
