Home UAE Dubai Drydocks, Q Group Sign Deal For Great Britain Island On Dubai’s The World Drydocks World will offer offshore marine and operational management solutions for the upcoming island. by Aarti Nagraj November 6, 2014 Dubai-based Q Group, which is developing the Great Britain Island on The World project, announced that it has signed an agreement with Drydocks World to provide offshore marine and operational management solutions for the development. Drydocks World will provide technical and operational support to the development of the island’s five-star resort and residential destination, and will design, engineer and build marine-based solutions, a statement said. Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World said: “We’re very happy to be working with Q Group to develop a resort destination which will be a stand out tourist attraction in its own right, and will show investors and other developers that The World project is very much alive and moving forward. “We have advocated smart solutions that are highly capable, flexible and efficient to meet today’s demanding requirements, and are totally committed to the government of Dubai’s initiatives to encourage sustainable living.” Safi Qurashi, CEO and founder of Q Group said: “We are delighted to partner with one of the world’s leading maritime specialists, which is committed to delivering complete solutions to the logistical problems which have been associated with The World project, and have held up development. “We will be using the latest marine technology developed in Dubai to create high quality living and working conditions. “We’re confident that this will help drive development and investment for The World project as a whole.” Q Group said it is set to reveal plans for a luxury resort, private and water villas, hotel serviced apartments, an event and wedding venue, offshore restaurants and bars, and water-based experiences on the island. Developed by Dubai’s Nakheel, The World, located just off the coast of Dubai, comprises 300 man-made islands, and adds over 232 kilometres of new beachfront to Dubai’s coastline. Up to 70 per cent of the islands were sold when the project was originally launched but work stopped after developers were hit during the financial crisis in 2008/2009. Work has since restarted in parts of the development, including in the Heart of Europe project, which is a cluster of six islands being developed by the Kleindienst Group. 0 Comments
