Dubai-based Indian businessman offers building in JLT for Covid-19 quarantine

Dubai-based Indian businessman Ajay Sobhraj, founder and chairman of Finja Jewellery, has donated an entire building to quarantine patients affected by Covid-19.

Sobhraj has offered the fully-equipped building in Jumeirah Lake Towers to the UAE authorities to quarantine patients, he said in a letter to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). The 77,000 sq. ft property can accommodate upto 400 people.

The building has undergone all necessary maintenance, including deep cleaning, sanitisation and air conditioning servicing, to ensure the facilities meet the required health and safety standards, Dubai Media Office said in a statement.

“I believe that in such challenging times, it is imperative for the community to come together and support the country we reside in to overcome this pandemic,” said Sobhraj, a Dubai resident for 25 years.

The UAE reported 63 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, taking the total number of diagnosed cases in the country to 468.

The UAE has also opened its first Coivd-19 testing drive-through facility open for both residents and citizens of the country in Abu Dhabi.

The UAE is only the fifth nation in the world to feature such a drive-through Covid-19 centre. It has a capacity to test 600 people a day, with a maximum of four people being tested at any given time.
