Dubai International to have ‘first-ever airport resident DJ’

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has introduced the “first ever airport resident DJ” programme as part of its musicDXB platform.

The initiative is launching on April 4, in partnership with local band Hollaphonic’s members Olly Wood and Greg Stainer to create a regular free monthly calendar of performances.

The long-term partnership will see Stainer and Wood fully curate the musicDXB programme and work alongside DXB.

The new roaming musicDXB stage will see established international and local artists perform while also serving as a platform to showcase up and coming talent.

Hollaphonic will begin their residency with two, two-hour sets on Thursday, April 4 and Saturday, April 6, and they will be supported the following weekend by Dubai-based house DJ Scott Forshaw and Mark Shakedown.

After a break during Ramadan, the performances will be back with performances from Stephon Lamar and US artist Alex Syps.

As a next step, the plan is to appeal to headline artists passing through the airport and encourage them to consider DXB as a new space to perform to an international audience, a statement said.

“Piano’s in baggage reclaim don’t cut it any more. Our customers are well travelled, global citizens and expect more, and at DXB we are really making some bold steps to offer just that,” said Matthew Horobin, director of Brand at Dubai Airports.

“Live performances by incredible singers from around the world that make you stop and take a moment, a DJ when you least expect – these are moments people will remember and share with their family and friends,” he added.

Earlier this year, Dubai Airports unveiled its new brand for DXB as a hub for culture, hospitality, and entertainment.

As part of the rebrand, the airport said it will feature more hospitality options as well as cultural experiences including music, art and fashion.
