Dubai to launch world’s first court tech incubator

A new court tech incubator is set to be launched in Dubai by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts and Dubai Future Foundation (DFF).

The initiative aims to strengthen the judicial system through technology.

Court tech lab will bring together resources to help launch legal technology initiatives such as blockchain powered projects, AI enabled programmes and cloud-based solutions, a statement said.

The tech lab will run an annual competition cycle to raise funds for companies that showcase promising insights in court technology. Startups, scaleups and SME participants will be invited to share creative and viable court tech solutions.

Shortlisted participants will share their innovations with private sector technology partners, and officials at DIFC Courts and DFF, the statement said.

The final concept will receive funding and DIFC Courts’ access to research and test the technology.

“This new initiative, under the guidance of the Courts of the Future, will help unlock the power of these same innovations to transform the experience of using a court for the end-user, the legal sector and the judiciary itself,” said Omar Al Muhairi, deputy chief justice, DIFC Courts.

DIFC Courts and DFF launched ‘The Courts of the Future’ in 2017 to explore different legal technology areas, and to research modern methods of offering greater efficiency to court users worldwide.

In 2018, DIFC Courts partnered with Smart Dubai to create the world’s first Court of the Blockchain.

“By leveraging disruptive innovation and emerging technologies, the Court Tech lab aims to revolutionise the judicial system,” said Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO, DFF.
